Fish Pen Penicillin is an effective treatment for pop-eyes, infected eyes, fin or tail rot, gill disease, columnaris disease, skin ulcerations and other bacterial diseases in ornamental fish.
There are a few different types of Penicillin. We often receive multiple calls inquiring which type of Penicillin we carry, since we are retailers of fish antibiotics and not pharmacists we thought it was necessary to inquire ourselves what we carry! After a call to Thomas Labs, our manufacturer, we have learned that we carry Penicillin V Potassium. This is also known as Penicillin VK. If you can think all the way back to your High School Chemistry Class, you will remember that K is the element symbol for potassium. Therefore, Penicillin V Potassium is the same as Penicillin VK. Penicillin V Potassium and Penicillin VK can be used interchangeably.
Other types of Penicillin that we have found are Penicillin V and Penicillin G.
According to drugs.com, “Penicillin V is the phenoxymethyl analog of penicillin G. Penicillin V Potassium is the potassium salt of Penicillin V.” Basically, in layman terms – Penicillin V, Penicillin VK and Penicillin G are different.
At fishmoxfishflex.com we carry two strengths of the Penicillin V Potassium called Fish Pen. They are available in 250 mg tablets and 500 mg tablets.
